Short answer
Wichita is where an Orthodox diocese keeps its cathedral. St George, on East 13th Street, is the cathedral of the Antiochian diocese of Wichita and Mid-America, and it began, according to the history published by its sister parish, in 1918 in a small house on South Handley Street bought by Lebanese immigrants.
Eleven places are listed below with an address and a link to their own website, from Kansas City to Garden City, three hundred and sixty-six miles west. Most of them are Antiochian; the Kansas City suburbs add a Greek parish, a parish of the Orthodox Church in America and one of the Russian Church Abroad.
This page is on cana.love, a free site for people who want to marry. It is open to more than the Orthodox, and a section below says how.
Orthodox Christians in Kansas
St Mary's history tells the Wichita story from the beginning. Lebanese families arrived in the early 1900s; in 1918 two men from among them founded the parish of St George in a small house. By the 1930s the community had grown and many families lived in west Wichita, so a second parish formed there, and on 20 July 1932, the feast of the Prophet Elijah, the state chartered it as St. Mary's American-Syrian Orthodox Church.
The rest of the state's Orthodox map is younger and more mixed. St Nicholas in Lawrence was formed in 2002 as a mission of the Orthodox Church in America and since 2014 has worshipped in a small white house given to the parish. In Topeka, Sts Peter and Paul was founded in 1993 by a group of spiritual searchers together with a few people born Orthodox. In Manhattan, the chapel of St Mary Magdalene has held its services since 1 September 2026 in the education wing of a Presbyterian church.
Orthodox Studies Institute, 2024; national figures, not Kansas's
What about people joining the Church? The Orthodox Studies Institute studied converts in twenty parishes spread across six jurisdictions and fifteen states. Among those received since 2013, two in three were under forty on the day, people in their thirties outnumbered every other age group, and 44 percent were unmarried.
Those figures describe the country, not Kansas; nobody has counted the state separately and this page does not guess. The eleven addresses below were each checked against the parish's own website on 24 September 2026.
Where the community gathers
The eleven places fall into four parts of the state: the Kansas City suburbs; Lawrence and Manhattan; Wichita and Salina; and the far west.
The Kansas City suburbs
The Kansas City suburbs hold four. St Dionysios, the Greek parish, is on West 95th Street in Overland Park, and Holy Trinity, of the Orthodox Church in America, is on Pflumm Road a few miles south-west. Sts Peter and Fevronia, a parish of the Russian Church Abroad, is on West 49th Street in Merriam, close to I-35, and serves mainly in English with some Church Slavonic. St Basil, the Antiochian parish, is on Riverview Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.
Lawrence and Manhattan
Lawrence and Manhattan hold two, both near universities. St Nicholas is on Iowa Street in Lawrence and sponsors the Orthodox Christian Fellowship at the University of Kansas; St Mary Magdalene now meets on College Avenue in Manhattan, home of Kansas State. Topeka, between them, has an Antiochian parish too, Sts Peter and Paul, but it is between buildings: its old church is for sale and a new one is being prepared, so it has no card here and its own site is the place to check.
Wichita and Salina
Wichita and Salina hold four. The cathedral of St George is in the east of Wichita, and St Mary is on South Martinson Street in the west; St Michael in Park City, just north, serves the Liturgy in the Western rite. All Saints is on Scanlan Avenue in Salina, an hour and a half north.
The far west
The far west holds one: the Three Hierarchs mission on North Main Street in Garden City, more than four hours from Wichita.

Distances that decide everything
A diagram, not a map. Driving times, as in the text.
Overland Park to Lawrence is about three quarters of an hour, Lawrence to Topeka about half an hour, and Topeka to Manhattan a little over an hour. Overland Park to Wichita is about three hours and ten minutes on the turnpike; Wichita to Salina an hour and a half; Wichita to Garden City four hours and twenty-five minutes. Kansas City to Garden City, end to end, is close to seven hours.
So Kansas is really two Orthodox communities and a long road. The Kansas City suburbs, Lawrence, Topeka and Manhattan make one chain of short drives; Wichita, Park City and Salina make another. Between the two lie two to three hours of prairie.
Better to know that before the first coffee than after. The cana.love form asks where you live and whether you would move, and both answers are there to read before anyone writes.

Dating across jurisdictions, and with converts
A cathedral founded by Lebanese families, a Topeka parish begun by seekers, a Western-rite church in Park City, and Greek, OCA and Russian Church Abroad parishes around Kansas City: Orthodox Kansas has many starting points. Here is how cana.love deals with that.
Twelve jurisdictions on one list
The form has a question for your jurisdiction and twelve answers: OCA, ROCOR, Greek, Antiochian, Serbian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Georgian, Carpatho-Russian, Albanian, Catechumen and Other Canonical. All eleven places here fall under one of them, and someone in St Nicholas's catechumenate has an answer as well.
Practice, asked outright
It also asks the things a parish name leaves out: how often you are at the Liturgy, whether you keep the fasts, and whether you are looking to marry. You can use the site in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German or Russian, which may help in a Merriam parish where some of the service is in Church Slavonic.
Checked before it appears
Profiles and photographs stay hidden until they are reviewed; a program looks first and a person settles whatever it flags as uncertain. The written rules ban asking any member for money, and fraud means the account is removed for good, without a warning.
Free, and no password
It is free, and there is no subscription waiting further on. There is no password to remember either: a one-time link or code comes to your email when you sign in.
What cana.love is and is not
cana.love is not an Orthodox-only platform.
It has Catholic members, Protestant members, and members who are still deciding where they belong but hope for the same sort of marriage. Who can see your profile is up to you. In a state where the two Orthodox communities sit two or three hours apart, a site limited to one jurisdiction would leave most people with no one to write to. The commitment the site does make can be checked: jurisdiction, practice and intentions are asked on the form, and you read them before you answer. It is run by Cana SpA, a Chilean company; the About page has more.
Meeting safely
- For a first meeting pick daylight and a public place, and agree beforehand when you will leave: coffee after the Liturgy, a café on Massachusetts Street in Lawrence or in Old Town Wichita. Make sure a friend knows where you will be, and if there are three hours of turnpike involved, when you should be home. Your address can stay private for now.
- Money has one rule. Until you have met face to face, do not send it, do not lend it and do not pay for anyone's travel, whatever the reason. Anyone who asks can be reported, and a single report is looked into.
The community guidelines explain what happens after a report and how an appeal works.
Common questions

St George in Wichita is the cathedral of the Antiochian diocese of Wichita and Mid-America. According to St Mary's history, the parish was founded in 1918 by Lebanese immigrants.
Is there an Orthodox parish near the University of Kansas?
Yes. St Nicholas on Iowa Street in Lawrence sponsors the Orthodox Christian Fellowship there, which meets for meals and discussion during term.
What is a Western-rite Orthodox parish?

Why does Topeka have no card?
Its Antiochian parish is moving: the old church is for sale and a new site is being prepared. Check the parish's own website for where services are held now.
Can I use cana.love in Kansas?

Next steps
In Wichita, go once to the cathedral and once to St Mary; they are a quarter of an hour apart. Around Kansas City, try the Saturday Vigil in Merriam and a Sunday in Overland Park.
