Short answer
On most Sundays at half past one, St Joseph's in east Raleigh celebrates Mass in Igbo, the language of south-eastern Nigeria; on the third Sunday, the Mass at that hour is for French-speaking Africans. In Durham, Holy Cross has a Swahili Mass once a month. In Charlotte, an Eritrean community formed in 2018 celebrates the Ge'ez rite on Saturday mornings in Tigrinya, and the Charlotte diocese's Igbo Mass, first said in Greensboro in 2014, now alternates between Greensboro and Charlotte.
Both dioceses list African-language liturgies on their own sites, alongside Masses in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and Malayalam.
Twenty-two places are listed below, each with an address and a link to its own page or its diocese's: cathedrals, a Benedictine abbey, Latin Mass communities, Eastern Catholic parishes, campus ministries from Duke to Western Carolina, and young adult groups that say whom they are for. They are not every parish; they are the places whose pages we could read.
You have reached cana.love, a free site for people looking for marriage. Its members are not all Catholic, and further down we say why.
Catholics in North Carolina
The state has two dioceses: Raleigh in the east and Charlotte in the west, divided in 1972. St Mary's in Greensboro, founded in 1928 to serve the Black residents of south-east Greensboro, says its people now come from twenty-one countries.
Young adult groups here usually name a decade rather than an age: Fiat Franciscus in north Raleigh, St Matthew's in Ballantyne and Aquinas' Finest in University City are all for people in their twenties and thirties. In Fayetteville, the diocese's Theology on Tap was open to ages twenty-one to thirty-nine.

The traditional Latin Mass is celebrated at Sacred Heart in Dunn, south of Raleigh, and in the Diocese of Charlotte at one designated chapel, the Chapel of the Little Flower near Mooresville, since October 2025. Raleigh's cathedral has a Mass in Latin on first Sundays.
Where the community gathers
The twenty-two places fall into five parts of the state: the Triangle, Charlotte and its neighbours, the Triad, the mountains, and the east.
The Triangle
The Triangle holds nine: the Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus and St Joseph's in Raleigh, Holy Cross in Durham, the campus ministries at NC State, Duke and UNC Chapel Hill, Fiat Franciscus and Our Lady of La Vang side by side on Leesville Road, and the Syro-Malabar parish in Apex.
Charlotte
Charlotte and its neighbours hold six: the Cathedral of St Patrick, Belmont Abbey's basilica, the Chapel of the Little Flower near Mooresville, the Eritrean community at St Vincent de Paul, and the young adults of St Matthew and of St Thomas Aquinas.
The Triad
The Triad holds two: St Mary's in Greensboro and the Catholic ministry at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.
The mountains
The mountains hold two: the Basilica of St Lawrence in Asheville and the campus ministry at Western Carolina in Cullowhee.
The east
The east holds three: St Patrick's in Fayetteville, Sacred Heart in Dunn and the Newman Center at East Carolina in Greenville.

Distances that decide everything
A diagram, not a map. Driving times, as in the text.
Inside the Triangle distances are short: Durham is half an hour from Raleigh and Chapel Hill forty minutes. Greensboro is well over an hour west of Raleigh and about an hour and a half from Charlotte; Raleigh to Charlotte is under three hours. From Charlotte, Belmont is twenty minutes and Mooresville forty; Asheville is two hours or more into the mountains.
In practice North Carolina has two Catholic centres, the Triangle and Charlotte, with the Triad between them. Inside each, two people can meet on a weeknight; between them, it takes a weekend.
The cana.love form asks where you live and whether you would move, so distance is on the table from the first message.

Mass, fasting and Scripture, each asked
The form puts Mass attendance on a five-point scale, weekly to seldom, and gives fasting, Scripture and your reason for joining a question each; you set who may read every answer.
Parish and meaning, in your own words
Parish and the meaning of your life are typed, not picked: no drop-down could cover both an abbey basilica and an Eritrean community that gathers on Saturday mornings.
Spanish is one of five languages
The site can be used in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Russian.

What cana.love is and is not
cana.love is not a Catholic-only platform.
Orthodox, Protestant and still-searching members take part too, all after the same kind of marriage, and your privacy settings govern who sees you. The parishes on this page pray in Igbo, Swahili, Tigrinya, Malayalam, Vietnamese, Spanish and French, and a site that shut its door would be narrower than they are. What it promises can be tested on any profile, where faith, practice and intentions are written out before you reply. Cana SpA, registered in Chile, is the operator; see the About page.
Meeting safely
- Arrange the first meeting in daylight, somewhere public, with a set time to leave: coffee after Mass, a café in downtown Raleigh or South End in Charlotte. Give a friend the details and, for I-40 or I-85 after dark, your time home. Your address can wait.
- Money has a single rule: before an in-person meeting, nothing sent, nothing lent and no travel paid, however urgent it sounds. We look into it after one report.
The community guidelines cover what follows a report and how to appeal.
