Short answer
In New Mexico, a parish is often a circuit. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe counts 93 parish seats and more than 220 active missions, churches that a parish serves alongside its own. On a Sunday morning, the parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Peña Blanca celebrates Mass at Santo Domingo at seven, at Cochiti at half past eight and at San Felipe at ten.
In the west, the Diocese of Gallup lists eight missions under the parish at Laguna, and at Acoma the church of San Esteban del Rey has Mass only on its feast days, 2 September and 26 December. The pueblos are sovereign communities, and the parish at Isleta asks visitors to be mindful of that; the Church's pages give the saint and the date, and leave the rest to the people who live there.
So meeting Catholics here often means looking past the nearest church to the whole circuit it belongs to.
Seventeen places are listed below, each with an address and a link to its own page or its diocese's: the cathedral in Santa Fe and the Santuario de Chimayó, the Latin Mass at San Ignacio in Albuquerque, a Vietnamese parish, parishes that pray in Spanish, young adult groups in Rio Rancho and Los Alamos, UNM's parish, the cathedrals of Las Cruces and Gallup, and the mission at Zuni. They are not every parish; they are the places whose pages we could read.
This page is published by cana.love, a free site for people who want marriage. It does not limit itself to Catholics; a later section says why.
Catholics in New Mexico
New Mexico has three dioceses: the Archdiocese of Santa Fe across the centre and north, the Diocese of Las Cruces in the south, and the Diocese of Gallup in the north-west, which reaches into Arizona. The archdiocese's parish finder lists the language of every weekend Mass, which makes it possible to count rather than guess.
The count holds a surprise. Of the 362 weekend Masses the archdiocese lists, 42 are in Spanish and ten are bilingual; Spanish is heard in many parishes, usually at one Mass. San José in Albuquerque is the exception, with four of its five weekend Masses in Spanish. Our Lady of Lavang, in the north-east of the city, celebrates every Mass in Vietnamese.

The traditional Latin Mass is sung every Sunday at noon at San Ignacio in Albuquerque's Martineztown, a parish that also has a Filipino bilingual Mass on the last Sunday of each month. Young adults have groups in Rio Rancho, for ages eighteen to thirty-five, and in Los Alamos, for those eighteen and over.
Where the community gathers
The seventeen places fall into five parts of the state: Albuquerque and Rio Rancho, Santa Fe and Los Alamos, the north, the south, and the west.

Some places appear without a card. St Augustine at Isleta Pueblo welcomes the public to its Sunday liturgies, but gives no street address. The Benedictine Monastery of Christ in the Desert, near Abiquiú, celebrates Mass daily and welcomes day visitors, thirteen miles down a dirt road with no street address. Old Town's San Felipe de Neri and San Francisco de Asís in Ranchos de Taos have websites that turned away automated visitors. The Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe describes itself as a private, nondenominational museum.
Distances that decide everything
A diagram, not a map. Driving times, as in the text.
Albuquerque to Santa Fe is about an hour and a quarter; Santa Fe to Chimayó and to Los Alamos, under an hour each. Rio Rancho is about half an hour from the University of New Mexico.
The rest of the state is far: Gallup is around two and a half hours west of Albuquerque, Las Cruces more than three hours south, and Socorro a little over an hour on the way.
So Catholic New Mexico has a heart between Albuquerque and Santa Fe, and a long reach beyond it. Within the heart, two people can meet on a weeknight; beyond it, distance is part of the decision.
The cana.love form asks where you live and whether you would move, so distance is part of the conversation from the start.

Dating as a practising Catholic in New Mexico
A sung Latin Mass in Martineztown, a Vietnamese Mass in the north-east heights, a Spanish Mass at San José and a walk to Chimayó: Catholics in New Mexico pray in many ways. cana.love asks which is yours.
Mass, fasting and Scripture, each asked
On the form, Mass attendance is one question, answered on a five-point scale from every Sunday to rarely. Fasting, Scripture and what you are looking for come separately, and each answer can be shown or withheld as you choose.
Parish and meaning, in your own words
Your parish and what gives your life meaning are written in by hand, since a mission church in a pueblo and a campus parish in Albuquerque fit no single list.
Spanish is one of five languages
You can use the site in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German or Russian.

What cana.love is and is not
cana.love is not a Catholic-only platform.
Orthodox Christians, Protestants and people still finding their way belong here as well, when they hope for the same kind of marriage, and your settings choose who sees you. New Mexico's Catholic parishes pray in Spanish, Vietnamese and Latin as well as English, and a site with a closed door would be narrower than they are. Its promise is plain to check: every profile gives faith, practice and intentions, to be read first. Cana SpA, a company in Chile, runs the site; the About page tells more.
Meeting safely
- For a first meeting pick daylight and a public place, and agree when you will go: coffee after Mass, a café on the Plaza in Santa Fe or in Nob Hill in Albuquerque. Tell a friend where you will be and, for I-25 or I-40 at night, when to expect you home. Your address can stay yours for now.
- On money there is a single rule: until you have met face to face, send nothing, lend nothing and pay no one's fare, however good the reason sounds. One report is enough for us to look.
The community guidelines set out what happens after a report and how to appeal.
