Short answer
At Corpus Christi in South River, two Portuguese-speaking communities share one parish. The parish's own page tells how a Portuguese apostolate began there in 1983, how Brazilians joined it from the late 1990s, and how the old Portuguese mission merged into Corpus Christi in 2012. Each community kept its own feast: candlelight processions for Our Lady of Fatima in May and October, and a liturgy for Our Lady of Aparecida, patroness of Brazil, around the twelfth of October.
Portuguese is heard well beyond South River. At Our Lady of Fatima in Newark's Ironbound, three of the four Sunday Masses are in Portuguese, and the parish website is written in both languages.
Twenty-two places are listed below, each with an address and a link to its own page or its diocese's: parishes, campus ministries, Latin Mass chapels, an Eastern Catholic church and a national shrine. They are not every parish in the state; they are the places whose pages we could open and read.
This page belongs to cana.love, a free site for people who want to marry. It is not only for Catholics, and a section below explains how that works.
Catholics in New Jersey
The state has five Latin-rite dioceses: the Archdiocese of Newark and the dioceses of Paterson, Metuchen, Trenton and Camden. The last four answered us with a bot check, so for them we read their newspapers and the websites of their parishes instead.
Newark's young adult office defines its young adults as eighteen to thirty-nine, and it is still gathering the contacts of its groups rather than publishing a list. The archdiocese also keeps separate lists of parishes with Korean and Filipino Masses, and speaks of eighty-seven parishes with Hispanic ministries.
From the parishes' and the archdiocese's own pages, opened 24 September 2026
The traditional Latin Mass has a home in every diocese: the Institute of Christ the King in West Orange, the Fraternity of St Peter in Pequannock, a diocesan parish in Berlin that celebrates only the old rite, and Sunday or monthly Masses in Jersey City, Hackensack and Neptune. Two of these communities run young adult groups and say which ages they are for.
Where the community gathers
The twenty-two places fall into five parts of the state: Newark and the cities around it; the north, from Bergen County to Morris; the centre, from New Brunswick to Princeton; the Shore; and the south, from Camden to Atlantic City.
Newark and around
Newark and the cities around it hold seven. The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart has a young adult community for ages eighteen to thirty-five; Our Lady of Fatima serves the Ironbound in Portuguese; the Latin Mass community of Jersey City sings its Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows; the Institute of Christ the King has an oratory in West Orange; St Andrew Kim in Maplewood is a Korean parish; and Seton Hall and Montclair State both have a Catholic chapel or centre on campus.
The north
The north holds five: Holy Trinity in Hackensack, with Masses in English, Spanish and Tagalog and a Latin Mass besides; the Fraternity of St Peter's chapel in Pequannock; St Joseph in Oradell, whose FUEL group is for ages twenty-one to thirty-five; St Paul Inside the Walls, the Diocese of Paterson's evangelisation centre in Madison; and St Ann, a Melkite parish in Woodland Park.
The centre
The centre holds four: the Catholic Center at Rutgers in New Brunswick; the Aquinas Institute at Princeton; Corpus Christi in South River; and the national Blue Army shrine of Our Lady of Fatima at Asbury, in the hills of Warren County.
The Shore
The Shore holds two: St Mary, Mother of God in Middletown, whose young adults meet each Wednesday, and Holy Innocents in Neptune, with a sung Latin Mass once a month.
The south
The south holds four: Mater Ecclesiae in Berlin; the Rowan University Catholic ministry at St Bridget in Glassboro; the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden; and Our Lady Star of the Sea in Atlantic City.

Some places appear without a card. St James in the Ironbound celebrates five of its seven weekend Masses in Portuguese, but its website would not open over a secure connection. The Oratory's Shrine Chapel in Raritan and St Dominic in Brick both have a Sunday Latin Mass, and a Melkite mission meets in Cliffside Park; their own websites were closed to us or gave no full address.
Distances that decide everything
A diagram, not a map. Driving times without traffic.
Newark to Paterson is twenty minutes, and Newark to New Brunswick about three quarters of an hour; Princeton is an hour from Newark, and Trenton twenty minutes beyond it. Camden is under an hour from Trenton, Atlantic City an hour and a quarter from Camden, and Cape May about three hours from Newark.
So Catholic New Jersey is really two regions. The north and the centre are one dense web, where a couple in Montclair and Oradell or in New Brunswick and South River can meet on a weeknight. The south is closer to Philadelphia than to Newark.
The cana.love form asks where you live and whether you would move, so distance is on the table from the first message.

Dating as a practising Catholic in New Jersey
A Korean parish in Maplewood, a Melkite Liturgy in Woodland Park, the old rite in Berlin and Mass in Portuguese in the Ironbound: Catholics in New Jersey do not all pray the same way. cana.love does not assume; it asks.
Mass, fasting and Scripture, each asked
How often you go to Mass is a question on the form, with five answers from every Sunday to rarely. Fasting and Scripture each get a question of their own, and so does what you are hoping to find. You choose who can see each answer.
Parish and meaning, in your own words
Your parish, and what gives your life meaning, you describe in your own words. No list could cover a state where one person's parish is a Newman center in Montclair and another's is a Brazilian community in South River.
Portuguese is one of five languages
English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Russian are the languages the site can be used in, which covers the Ironbound and South River as well as the rest.

What cana.love is and is not
cana.love is not a Catholic-only platform.
It includes Orthodox Christians, Protestants and people who have not yet found their church, provided they are looking for the same kind of marriage; your settings decide who can see you. The places on this page welcome people in many languages, and a site that shut everyone else out would be narrower than they are. What the site does promise can be checked: faith, practice and intentions are on the form, to be read before you answer. Cana SpA, a company registered in Chile, runs it; the About page has more.
Meeting safely
- For the first meeting, choose daylight, a public place and a time to leave: coffee after Mass, a café in Montclair or on Nassau Street in Princeton. Tell a friend where you are going and, if it means the Turnpike or the Parkway in the evening, when you should be back. Your address can wait.
- About money the rule is simple. Until you have met in person, do not send it, do not lend it and do not pay for anyone's travel, whatever the story. One report is enough for us to look into it.
The community guidelines explain how reports are handled and how a decision can be appealed.

Next steps
Find a group that states your age and go once: Middletown on a Wednesday, Oradell on the last Friday, Berlin on a Wednesday evening. If Portuguese is your language, go to the Saturday evening Mass in South River. And if you would like to know how someone lives the faith before the first coffee rather than after, make a free profile on cana.love and read theirs.
