Short answer
Mississippi's Catholic story begins not in the capital but on the river, in Natchez. The Basilica of St Mary there calls itself "The Mother Church of Mississippi Catholicism", and its history records that from 1798 until 1839, "a total of 40 years", the Catholics of Natchez kept their community going without a resident priest.
The basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, whom it honours as patroness of Mississippi, and every Saturday its Mass ends with a perpetual novena to her.
Thirteen places are set out below, each with an address and a link to its own website: the basilica in Natchez, parishes from Vicksburg to Jackson and Laurel, Spanish Masses in the capital, the Delta and the north, a young adult group in Tupelo that names its ages, and parishes on the Gulf Coast. The list is not complete; it holds the parishes whose own pages we could read.
cana.love, which put this page together, is a free site for people seeking marriage; Catholics are welcome there, but not only Catholics, as a later section explains.
Catholics in Mississippi
The state has two dioceses: the Diocese of Jackson across most of it, and the Diocese of Biloxi along the coast and the south. Both dioceses' websites, both cathedrals' and many parish sites refused automated visitors, so every card here comes from a parish's own page, and neither cathedral appears with its Masses.
Spanish is part of parish life in many towns. Holy Family in Jackson has a Sunday Mass in Spanish at eight; Immaculate Conception in Laurel has Spanish Masses on Saturday night, Sunday afternoon and two weekday evenings; St James in Tupelo and Our Lady of Victories in Cleveland have Spanish Masses too.

In Tupelo, St James's young adult group is for anyone from eighteen to thirty-five, the only group in the state we found that names its ages.
Where the community gathers
The thirteen places sit in four parts of the state: Natchez and the river, Jackson and the centre, the north and the Delta, and the Gulf Coast.
Natchez and the river
Natchez and the river hold two: the Basilica of St Mary in Natchez and St Paul in Vicksburg.
Jackson and the centre
Jackson and the centre hold three: Christ the King and Holy Family in Jackson, and Immaculate Conception in Laurel.
The north and the Delta
The north and the Delta hold five: St James in Tupelo and its young adults, Annunciation in Columbus, Our Lady of Victories in Cleveland and St Joseph in Greenville.
The Gulf Coast
The Gulf Coast holds three: St Clare in Waveland, Most Holy Trinity at Kiln–DeLisle and St James in Gulfport.

Some places appear without a card. The cathedrals in Jackson and Biloxi, the parishes near Mississippi State and Southern Miss, and St John in Oxford by Ole Miss either refused automated visitors or showed conflicting addresses. The Vietnamese Catholics of the Biloxi coast and Holy Rosary, the Choctaw mission near Philadelphia, had no page of their own that we could read.
Distances that decide everything
A diagram, not a map. Driving times, as in the text.
Mississippi's Catholic places are spread thin. From Jackson, Vicksburg is under an hour west, Laurel and Natchez around two hours, and the coast at Waveland more than three. On the coast, Waveland, Kiln–DeLisle and Gulfport are within about forty minutes of each other; in the north, Columbus is under an hour and a half from Tupelo, and Cleveland under an hour from Greenville.
So Catholic Mississippi is a state of separate towns. Within one, two people can meet any evening; from Tupelo to the Gulf, it is a weekend.
On the cana.love form you say where you live and whether you would move, so the miles between Tupelo and the Gulf are no surprise.

Dating as a practising Catholic in Mississippi
A novena in Natchez, a Spanish Mass in Laurel, a sung Mass in Greenville and an evening of praise in Gulfport: Mississippi's Catholics pray in their own ways, and cana.love asks you to describe yours.
Mass, fasting and Scripture, each asked
The form's question on Mass attendance has five answers, from every week to seldom; fasting, Scripture and what you hope for are asked on their own, and you decide who may see each answer.
Parish and meaning, in your own words
Parish and meaning are yours to put into words; a basilica on the bluff at Natchez and a Delta parish in Cleveland would not sit on a single list.
Spanish is one of five languages
The site is written in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Russian.
Checked first, free, no password
Nobody sees a new profile or photo until it has been checked, by software and, if needed, by a staff member. Members may not ask one another for money, and a fraudster is removed permanently without warning. The site is free, nothing renews, and instead of a password you get a one-time link or code by email.
What cana.love is and is not
cana.love is not a Catholic-only platform.
Orthodox and Protestant Christians, and people still looking for their church, may join too, provided marriage is what they are after; your settings let you choose who sees you. Mississippi's parishes pray in Spanish as well as English, and a site with a closed door would be narrower than they are. Its promise is simple to check: faith, practice and intentions come first on every profile. It is operated by Cana SpA, a company in Chile; the About page says more.
Meeting safely
- Arrange the first meeting in daylight and in public, with an agreed time to say goodbye: coffee after Mass, or a café in Fondren in Jackson or downtown in Natchez. Make sure a friend knows where you will be and when you expect to be home, and keep your address to yourself for now.
- With money, one rule applies: send nothing, lend nothing and pay no one's travel until you have met in person, whatever the explanation. A single report is enough for us to look.
What follows a report, and how to appeal, is explained in the community guidelines.
