Short answer

Two Italian villages in Arkansas grew up around their church, and in both the grape harvest is still kept as a feast of the parish.

In Tontitown, in the Ozarks of the northwest, the festival's own history tells how, in the August of 1898, the Italian settlers celebrated their harvest "with a mass of Thanksgiving in the little Church", and that the Tontitown Festival of today grew from it; St Joseph's parish still calls the Grape Festival its tradition. In Little Italy, west of Little Rock, St Francis of Assisi has hosted the grape harvest festival since 1927. One of the founders asked that the church never be moved: "We, the older generation, put it in the middle of the community and we are proud that it is there."

Eighteen places are listed below, each with an address and a link to its own page or its diocese's: the two Italian parishes, Subiaco Abbey and the Benedictine sisters of Fort Smith, the cathedral in Little Rock with a young adult group, two parishes of the traditional Latin Mass, Masses in Vietnamese, Igbo, Malayalam and Spanish, and the Catholic parishes of three universities. They are not every parish; they are the places whose pages we could read.

cana.love, which runs this page, is a free site for people who want to marry. Its members include more than Catholics; a later section explains.

Catholics in Arkansas

The whole state is one diocese, the Diocese of Little Rock. Its website was open to us, with a directory of parishes and a statewide list of Mass times that names the language of each Mass, so several cards below link to it.

The traditional Latin Mass has two parishes of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter: St John the Baptist in Cabot, near Little Rock, and Our Lady of Sorrows in Springdale, in the northwest, where every Mass and sacrament is in the Extraordinary Form.

1898the year Tontitown's settlers celebrated their harvest with a Mass of thanksgiving
1927the year St Francis in Little Italy began hosting the grape harvest festival
1878the year Benedictine monks and sisters from Indiana came to the Arkansas River valley

From the parishes', the abbey's, the sisters', the festival's and the diocese's own pages, opened 24 September 2026

Monks came to the Arkansas River valley in March 1878, sent from St Meinrad in Indiana to serve German Catholic settlers, and founded what became Subiaco Abbey. Benedictine sisters came from Ferdinand, Indiana the same year; their monastery is in Fort Smith, and guests are welcome to pray the Hours and Mass with them.

The diocese's own list names Masses in Vietnamese in North Little Rock, Barling and Jonesboro, in Igbo once a month in North Little Rock, in Malayalam once a month in Bella Vista, in Filipino in Jonesboro, and in Spanish across the state. At the cathedral, the young adult group is for ages eighteen to forty.

Distances that decide everything

Two Italian villages, far apart
Tontitown
more than 3 hours
Little Italy
under 1 hour
Little Rock

A diagram, not a map. Driving times, as in the text.

In Little Rock, the cathedral, the shrine and the two North Little Rock parishes are within five minutes of each other; Cabot is about half an hour away and Little Italy under an hour. In the northwest, Springdale, Tontitown and Fayetteville are within twenty minutes of each other, and Bella Vista under an hour.

Subiaco and Jonesboro are each around two hours from Little Rock, and Fort Smith a little over an hour from Tontitown. The two Italian villages, Tontitown and Little Italy, are more than three hours apart.

So Catholic Arkansas is a handful of towns, each with its own heart. Inside each, two people can meet on a weeknight; between Little Rock and the Ozarks, it is a Saturday.

cana.love puts where you live and whether you would move on the form, so the distance is known from the start.

Dating as a practising Catholic in Arkansas

A Latin Mass in Cabot, a Mass in Igbo in North Little Rock, Vespers with the sisters in Fort Smith and a grape harvest in Tontitown: Catholics in Arkansas pray in many ways. cana.love asks which is yours.

Mass, fasting and Scripture, each asked

Mass attendance is one of the questions, on a scale of five from weekly to rarely. Fasting, Scripture and what you are hoping for are separate questions, and each answer can be shared or kept private.

Parish and meaning, in your own words

Parish and meaning are written by you, not chosen: an Ozark village parish and a university parish in Jonesboro would never share one list.

Spanish is one of five languages

You can use the site in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German or Russian.

What cana.love is and is not

cana.love is not a Catholic-only platform.

Orthodox Christians, Protestants and those still finding their way are welcome as well, when they want the same kind of marriage, and your settings decide who sees you. Arkansas's Catholic parishes pray in Spanish, Vietnamese, Igbo, Malayalam and Filipino as well as English, and a site with a closed door would be narrower than they are. Its promise is on every profile: faith, practice and intentions, set out to be read first. Cana SpA, a company in Chile, runs it; the About page says more.

Meeting safely

  • Make the first meeting a daytime one in a public place, with a time to leave agreed: coffee after Mass, a café in the River Market in Little Rock or on the square in Fayetteville. Tell a friend where you will be and, if the drive home is I-40 or I-49 after dark, when to expect you. Your address can wait.
  • On money, one rule: until you have met in person, send nothing, lend nothing and pay for no one's travel, whatever the reason. One report is enough for us to look.

The community guidelines say what happens after a report and how to appeal.
